Pilbara resident Jessica Wilson was announced winner of the CPM-sponsored Young Emerging Artist category in the Pilbara’s iconic Cossack Art Awards.

Her artwork, Yindibarni Country, shows a view of Pilbara country, referencing the coastal landscape.

Jessica said Yindibarni Country was her first painting and entry into the awards. She thanked elder ‘Nanna Allery’ in her speech for being her teacher and showing her how to paint.

CPM General Manager Health and Safety Gary Rayson presented Jessica with the award, which included $8,000 in prize money, at the gala presentation of winners on 21 July.

Fifteen submissions were received for the Young Emerging Artist competition category. About 300 artworks were on display at this year’s event, representing a diverse mix of art and talent from across the country.

The exhibition is open to the public until 12 August. To find out more, visit www.cossackartawards.com.au
