What do aspiring gymnasts, baristas and long-distance runners in the Pilbara have in common? They’re all the latest beneficiaries of CITIC Pacific Mining’s Community Support Fund (CCSF).

CPM is excited to partner with Swan Districts Football Club who have designed a program that simulates a real-world hospitality environment to provide Pilbara students with practical life and work skills. The Swan Elevate program, based at Roebourne District High School, will teach students foundation barista skills and touch on all aspects of a small business operation, leading to a nationally accredited qualification and future work opportunities. The $5000 CCSF grant will be used to purchase equipment and supplies.

The Karratha Gymnastics club will use its $5000 grant towards the purchase of safety equipment to provide better impact protection for its gymnasts, giving them more confidence in performing high level routines.

The Pilbara Trailblazers, a running club in Karratha created only last year but already boasting a community of 380 people, will put its CCSF funding ($5000) towards timing gear and other equipment.

Two CCSF application rounds are held annually, with up to $5000 available per application.

The fund was established following introduction of CPM’s Containers for Change recycling initiative, with returns from drink container recycling at the Sino Iron operation reinvested into community projects via the grants program.

Focus areas for grant funding are:

  • Education and training
  • Healthy, active lifestyles
  • Cultural learning and exchange
  • Environmental responsibility
  • Youth support and development.
  • Congratulations to all recipients of Round 2 of the CCSF grant for 2022.
