CITIC Pacific Mining (CPM) is pleased to confirm that the State of Western Australia has approved the 2023 Mine Continuation Proposals (2023 MCPs) for the Sino Iron Project.

Designed to support continued operation for an interim period until a longer-term solution can be implemented, these proposals will allow extension of the mine pit and waste rock and tailings storage operations within areas over which CITIC companies have pre-existing rights of access and/or use.

Approval of the 2023 MCPs is a critical first step towards Sino Iron returning to previous production levels.

After a significant delay, tenement holder Mineralogy recently agreed to join with CITIC to submit the 2023 MCPs. They were submitted to the State last month.

CPM Chairman Chen (Sam) Sui welcomed Mineralogy’s decision to submit the 2023 MCPs and thanked the State for its prompt consideration of the proposals.

“A major barrier to actually getting on the ground and extending life of our operations has now been removed,” Mr Sui said.

“The challenges associated with current physical constraints will not go away overnight. We will feel the impact for some time and further work is required to secure long-term operational certainty.

“Regardless, this is a very important and positive outcome.

“Our collective challenge is to progress these works in a safe and efficient manner and to try to mitigate the impact of higher costs associated with lower production.”
