The latest round of CITIC Pacific Mining Community Support Fund (CCSF) grants focus on supporting emergency services, community connection and health outcomes across the Pilbara.
Nickol Bay Volunteer Bushfire Brigade will use its $5000 grant for ongoing bushfire prevention and response work across the Karratha region. The grant will contribute to volunteer training in crew deck operations, monitor control and radio communications, as well as controlled burns and regional deployments to assist other brigades during high-demand periods.
The Pilbara Community Men’s Shed (PCMS) is another recipient, with plans to establish a permanent facility that will provide a safe, inclusive and engaging space for members of the community to connect. The CCSF grant will contribute to co-funding commitments with the State Government to progress construction of the new shed. Once complete, the facility will offer a structured environment that promotes community engagement, personal development and overall wellbeing.
The Earbus Foundation of WA, through its Wrap the Gap team, will use its CCSF funding to develop and deliver a tailored professional learning program for staff at Wickham Primary School. Led by occupational therapists, speech pathologists, and physiotherapists, the initiative aims to build teachers’ capacity to better support students affected by untreated ear health issues such as otitis media, which can impact hearing, speech and emotional development. The grant will assist in developing the program’s educational tools and resources.
Since its inception in 2021, the CCSF has supported 22 Pilbara-based projects and organisations, delivering meaningful outcomes through small grants of up to $5,000 (inclusive of GST).
The fund is made possible through CPM’s Containers for Change recycling initiative, which reinvests funds raised from drink container recycling at the Sino Iron Cape Preston operations back into community projects. To date, over 1 million containers have been recycled in 2025 alone.
