One hundred and fifty pairs of shoes were donated to students at Roebourne District High School (K – 12) at the beginning of summer by the CPM Sino Club on behalf of employees, who fundraised for the shoes.
CITIC Pacific Mining General Manager of Health & Safety, Gary Rayson said employees were very keen to help out when they learned that many of the children at the school did not own a pair of shoes.
“Working on site, we understand how harsh the environment can be and the importance of quality footwear. It keeps the children safe and means they can keep active,” he said.
Roebourne District High School Principal Erica Prosser said the children were very excited to receive new shoes, and some children took spare shoes home for their younger brothers and sisters.
“Our students are very grateful for CITIC’s response to what is a basic but very important need,” she said.
“One of our teachers summed it up so well, as one of her the little boys in her class who rarely smiles just had a beaming smile on his face.
